Warm N' Cozy Organizers Thank Volunteers, Community and Say 'Good Morning, Hartland!'

3. Hartland details why policy fits new anti-bullying law

The Hartland School District doesn't need to change its anti-bullying policy to fit under a new law , says Scott VanEpps, the district's assistant superintendent of personnel and student services, in an Livingston County Daily Press & Argus article.

He said the policy is based on one put forth as a model by the Michigan State Board of Education.

"It's comprehensive and it covers all aspects of students, in any manner, should be free from threat and intimidation and harassment, and it doesn't matter how or where it occurs. If it adversely affects students, its covered," he told the newspaper.

"I greatly respect anybody's effort to help us all create an environment of civility toward one another. It didn't take legislation to bring about any kind of change in our school in dealing with this issue, (however).

"As educators, as adults dealing with young people, it's always been our responsibility to provide expectations and guidance for how we're going to treat one another in our school environment and we do that day-in and day-out, and I think we do a pretty good job of it."

Deneweth's Garden Center, 13790 Highland Rd, is holding a from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday where the $5 per person entry fee will be donated to for the school's holiday adopt-a-family effort.

5. Hartland Trivia

Congrats to Linda Bowen who correctly answered — On Monday, the Hartland Community Council held one of its regular meetings. What main event does the group plan every year? Answer: Memorial Day activities (rose clark also deserves credit for noting another important event the group organizes — Hartland Heritage Day).
