Dear Senator Levin

Sept 3, 2013

Dear Senator Levin,

When the Goldstone Report cited the use of white phosphorus on the people of Gaza by the Israeli Government, 2008-2009, killing over 326 Palestinian children in 22 days, where was the outrage about Israel's use of chemical weapons? No outrage just the congressional vote to ask the UN not to publicize the report.  When our government helped Iraq use chemical weapons in the 1980's in their war against Iran, where was the outrage?

When our government lies to us about its spying, not only on its own citizens but its allies, where is the outrage?

Almost 90% of the American people do not want military action against the Syrians, they remember the false claims of our government about precision bombing, surgical strikes, etc. where only the military personnel  get killed not the innocent children living there.  We remember what our government did in Iraq with their “Shock and awe" precisions bombing and the continual daily assaults which resulted in over 100,000 dead Iraqis over a 10 year period, or the no-fly zone in Libya where there was no intention of “regime change" and no publicity about how many Libyian children died there.  How many of the 100,000 Syrians killed since 2011 are children? Do you know? Congress is outraged now? Why no outrage when children are killed by conventional weapons supplied by the US and our allies? (Secretly of course).

Most Americans believe in human rights, not retaliation.  We don't believe that killing other peoples’ children will make the US safe for our children. Israel is not our friend, they are willing to do whatever it takes to secure their own future and they are the ones willing to sacrifice other peoples' children for their own security.  Bad morals, bad philosophy, and the more John Kerry gets on TV saying we need to bomb Syria for our security and Israel's, people see it for the lie it is.  We know that Israel  has already bombed Syria on its own and doesn't ask anybody. They just do it in secret and the US covers for them.  Bibi goes to the UN with his red pen and now we have Obama with his red line- both show a contempt for international law and human rights. Israel and the US started the immoral concept of "pre-emptive" war.

When you get back to session on Sept 9th, ask Congress to find a non-violent solution in dealing with what is going on in Syria. Quit making deals behind our backs to arm the Rebels thru using Saudia Arabia and Qatar.  Have Congress present the evidence to us and to the world that Assad's Government is responsible for the attack on Aug 21st. Ask the Corporate Media to stop saying that Assad did it when the evidence hasn't been presented.  We don't want to hear that the evidence is secret or classified for us the American people. The International Court of Justice could try Assad for this.   Let’s use the court of law instead of assassinating people by drone or manned aircraft or military strategic targeting.  No military attack on Syria.

Obama and the Congress need to right their own moral compass, starting with respecting the rule of law and supporting the whistleblowers like Bradley Manning and Edward Snowden who exemplify real American patriotism, people we can be proud of who tell the truth at great peril to themselves for the sake of humanity.

Americans want peace with justice for everyone!

Sincerely,

Mares Hirchert
