"Good Riddance to the Military Option!

My letter to the editor of the Livingston Cty Press & Argus was published today, Sunday Sept 15, 2013:
" Good riddance to military option
I am writing in response to the front page article: “Rogers, Levin want military option intact” (Sept. 12).
In the president’s speech Tuesday night, he spoke about the terrible images of dead Syrian children and forgot to mention the alive Syrian children that might die as “collateral damage” in a U.S. assault on Syria. This video (http://youtu.be/vb3XBOrJ6Yo) has images of those living Syrian children. The United States stood by and did nothing when Israel pre-emptively bombed Gaza for 22 days in 2008-2009, killing more than 1,400 Palestinians, 326 of them children. The images of children burned by the white-phosphorus bombs used (a war crime) did not outrage our president nor our Congress to hold the Israeli government accountable.

We have an opportunity to say to the world there will be no bombing of Syria for any reason by the United States.

We Americans refuse to accept the deaths of Syrian children (collateral damage) or any other children for that matter, for the political, strategic or economic security of the United States or Israel.

There are other ways to achieve a solution in Syria and Iran, and the United States needs to start seriously pursuing them and leading the rest of the world to do the same.
