Two Courageous and Brave Americans

In my e-mail in-box today I read the following and decided to blog, Facebook, and e-mail:
Please take time to read and view:
Chelsea Manning acceptance statement of Sam Adams Award for Integrity in Intelligence Feb 19, 2014

Two brave and courageous individuals, honored in England, imprisoned and threatened with assassination, respectively, in America.

Since 9/11, Americans have lost their moral compass or maybe we never had one but at least I thought we did.  I knew we were in trouble when President George Bush declared three whole countries evil.  Why didn't we go after the money that sponsored the 19 hijackers, 15 of whom were from Saudi Arabia?  Why not treat what happened on 9/11 as criminal, get Interpol on the case?  What an awful idea to go and bomb Afghanistan which already had been bombed for the previous years by Russia? Why not find out why this group wanted to attack the World Trade Center?
I can't begin to write how sad and angry I am that our country has been bombing and killing innocent people in the name of our own security, destroying people, land, cultural artifacts, terrorizing civilian populations with the use of drones, bombs, torture.  We now have built up a security state costing billions benefiting the 2 % while the 98 % seem powerless to do anything about it. Tonight we will celebrate the Academy Awards to take our mind off the sad state of affairs not only in the US but around the world. When will ordinary Americans realize that until all countries's feel secure no one country will feel secure?  Security doesn't come from force, threat, torture, killing.  Security comes from people trusting each other, their governments and in other governments,  in the rule of law, equality, caring for everyone's children not just your own.

Chuck and I met with Rep. Rogers' representative, Elizabeth Dean, from his Lansing Office on Feb 26th to:"... ask your representative to co-sponsor bill H.R. 2324, a measure sponsored by Rep. Adam Schiff (CA) to bring an end to the AUMF. ( Authorization for the Use of Military Force). " The act has been used to justify the wars and occupation of Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as detention without trial, extraordinary rendition, the use of drones, and NSA spying. It has led to increased militarization of our foreign policy and been used as a psychological tactic to paint so much of the world as a potential threat to the United States."  Please add your voice to calling for the end of AUMF by contacting Rep. Mike Rogers' office in Wash D.C.: l202-225-4872 or Lansing: 517-702-8000.

"Silence, they say, is the voice of complicity.
But silence is impossible.
Silence screams.
Silence is a message,
just as doing nothing is an act.

Let who you are ring out and resonate
in every word and every deed.
Yes, become who you are.
There's no sidestepping your own being
or your own responsibility.

What you do is who you are.
You are your own comeuppance.
You become your own message.

You are the message.
