This could be one way to walk off that turkey day meal.

Normally, we do a countdown of activities to help you plan for your adventures in the upcoming weekend, but with Thanksgiving coming this week, we thought we'd try to help you plan for the holiday in the neighborhood.

Looking to get a head start on shopping? Here are five area options:

  • Walmart starts special sales starting at 10 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, including things like DVDs, bikes, scooters, kids' games, toys, household goods, clothing, jewelry, appliances, luggage, and Christmas decor.
  • Michigan-based Meijer describes its sales as "Black Friday prices all week long" but offers special Thursday-only sales 6 a.m.-midnight on Christmas decor, gift wrap, toys, games, luggage, household goods, electronic items, jewelry, shoes, various clothing items including kids' snow pants and jackets for everyone.
  • Kmart Thanksgiving day ad specials include electronics (including several TV and camera bargains), DVDs, video games, holiday decor, toys, board games, jewelry, winter outerwear/thermal wear, footwear, general household goods and small appliances. Take your pick of two locations: 18055 Silver Parkway in Fenton or 10951 Highland Road, White Lake.
  • Tanger Outlets, 1475 N Burkhart Road in Howell, also opens at 10 p.m. Thursday. Be one of the first 200 shoppers in line at 10 p.m. or 2 a.m. Friday and receive a free $10 Tanger gift card. More information available at tangeroutlet.com.
  • At , special items such as electronics, cosmetic and beauty specials, Christmas items and decor, and a number of gifts from toys to cozy slippers for both kids and adults are on sale. Many gifts are less than $20; some are $10 or lower.
