Abandoned Home on Hartland Road Set on Fire

The following information was supplied by the Livingston County Sheriff's Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A small fire in an empty home on the 10000 block of Hartland Rd. is believed to be a case of arson, according to a report from the Livingston County Sheriff's Department.

Fenton firefighters and police responded to the abandoned home after receiving a 911 call on June 12 around 9:30 a.m., according to the report.

The caller told police he had noticed flames coming out of the window while driving by and after calling 911 and a nearby friend, the two had checked the home, but didn't see anyone inside.

Police say the fire was started in a bedroom with paper and possibly insulation but it was unclear if an accelerant was used.

According to the report, the Fenton City Fire Department had already been given permission and signed paperwork to burn the unoccupied residence for training purposes and intended to burn the structure in the near future.
