A video shows a student attacking freshman Katya Adamkiewicz on March 12.

The Livingston County Sheriff's Department is now seeking charges against the Hartland High School student who was seen attacking another student in class on March 12, according to the Press & Argus.

A video posted on Facebook by a third student shows the female student grabbing the back of  14-year-old Katya Adamkiewicz hair, throwing her to the ground and punching her until an adult steps in to stop the attack.

Both students are in ninth grade at Hartland High School.

According to Katya's mother Aurore Henze, the incident took place during her daughter’s fifth hour class with the teacher in the classroom. Katya’s nose was broken and she also received a concussion from the beating.

According to the Press & Argus, the sheriff's department is seeking assault and battery charges on the student who attacked Katya.

Sheriff Bob Bezotte told the Press & Argus that the attack came after Katya made fun of the suspect for a personal situation the suspect was discussing with another person.

Initially, Katya received a 5-day suspension, but her mother said the school removed that punishment after viewing the video.

Henze said her daughter has had problems with the suspect repeatedly in the past.

The sheriff's department is not seeking charges against the student who videotaped the incident, believing it to be spontaneous, according to the Press & Argus.
