Handicapped Parking Enforcement Steps Up in Area During the Holiday Shopping Season

Volunteer patrol looks to protect those who need closest spaces, including in Hartland and Brighton.

It's the holiday shopping season and that handicapped space can look inviting amid a packed parking lot on a cold day.

Here's a reason to resist any temptation to park there illegally:

The Livingston County Sheriff's Department has a three-person volunteer handicapped enforcement team that picks up its patrol especially during the holidays, according to Wayne Templeton, one of its members.

Templeton, who is a county animal control officer and Livonia Police Department retiree, said the number of violations Sunday was lower than ususal. But he added he still issued a handful tickets across the county, including the one he was writing up at the in Hartland during his interview with Patch.

Court costs and a fine are $175, according to 53rd District Court.
