Hartland Firefighter of the Year: 'I Do It Because I Love It'

Lt. Terry Conklin was honored during the Hartland Deerfield Fire Authority awards ceremony on Friday night.

During Friday night's Hartland Deerfield Fire Authority, Lt. Terry Conklin was awarded the Firefighter of the Year award for 2012.

Fire Chief Adam Carroll presented the award to the 16- year veteran telling the audience of firefighters, family and community members that Conklin had gained the "respect and admiration of his peers."

During his 14 years in Hartland, Conklin has been one of the top run respondants, responding to more than 3,300 calls. In 2012, Conkilin responded to 424 calls, according to Carroll, while being a frequent trainer to other firefighters and being active in community events.

"He's in the station almost daily," Carroll said, "participating in a litany of projects."

Accepting the award, Conklin told the audience that their job as firefighters wasn't "an 'I' job, but a 'we' job," and he did did it "because I love it."

"I want the citizens of Hartland to be proud of us," he said.
