Hartland Man Swindled Over Motorcycle, Tires and Rims Stolen from Car

The following information was supplied by the Livingston County Sheriff's Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A 51-year-old Hartland man lost $3,500 after attempting to buy a motorcycle online, according to a police report from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department.

Police say the man was using the website, Cycletrader.com, and after finding a motorcycle, contacted the owner about buying the bike.

Communicating through emails and text messages with a man who claimed to be an Army sergeant and identified himself as Marcus Hyatt, police say the Hartland man agreed to the asking price of $3,500.

According to the report, Marcus Hyatt then requested the Hartland man send the payment in the form of a money order to an address in Bangladesh.

Police say the victim was told to send the payment to that address due to the seller being in the Army and that is where his transactions were processed.

After sending the money order, police say the Hartland man received an email with a copy of the title, which listed the owner as Marcus Hyatt and believed the transaction was legitimate.

Days later, the Hartland man received another email informing him the motorcycle was at Scotts Air Force Base in Ohio and he would have to pay an additional $3,500 for a warranty. On Feb. 22, police say the Hartland man refused to pay the money and requested to have the transaction cancelled and his money returned to him.

According to the report, since that date, there has been no further contact and the phone of Marcus Hyatt has been disconnected.
