Have You Seen 'Cookie'? Hartland Women's Club Says Scarecrow Stolen

Group hopes its creation is returned for a fundraiser that helps area charities.

A spokesperson for the Hartland Women's Club says the scarecrow has been recently stolen off the lawn in front of the .

Club spokeswoman Peggy Seebaldt said no police report has been filed and she hopes going public will encourage whomever took "Cookie" to return her by leaning it on the chamber garage on Crouse Road. There will be no questions asked, she said.

"Our only interest is to have our scarecrow, Cookie, returned," said Seebaldt, who added that stakes and a wire attachment that helped anchor her to a tree had to be removed to take the scarecrow.

The club wants her back so it can display her at in December, the group's biggest event that raises money for local charities. The scarecrow was dressed as a member of the club who participates at the event.

Cookie disappeared the week after the scarecrow contest, which ended Sept. 16 and was considered a success as some the week before Hartland Heritage Day. Some groups, including the women's club, had left their scarecrows on display in hopes of maintaining a fall atmosphere for the community.
