Woman Denied Tax Refund Due to Unemployment Fraud, Copper Pipes Stolen from Unoccupied Home

On July 24, police responded to a woman who lives on the 3000 block of Silver Charm in Howell who said she was denied a tax return in March for supposedly claiming unemployment.

According to a police report from the Livingston County Sheriff’s department, the victim denied applying for unemployment benefits, but after contacting the unemployment office was told that someone had been using her social security number since May of 2011 to collect checks.

Hartland home robbed

A Hartland woman reported that on July 24 at 11 a.m., a door from her garage leading into her home on the 11000 block of Hartland Road had been kicked in and items stolen, according to a police report from the Livingston County Sheriff’s department.

Police say that the homeowner noticed that the copper plumbing had been taken from her kitchen sink.

According to the report, the homeowner hadn’t lived in the house for six months.

Tires stolen from car dealership

Tires and wheels were stolen from two cars parked on the lot of Champion Chevrolet in Genoa Township. The incident occurred overnight between the hours of 11:30 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. Tuesday, according to a report from the Livingston County Sheriff’s department. 

Chainsaw stolen

A Fenton man reported a chainsaw was stolen out of the back of his pick-up truck on the 6000 block of Bennett Lake, according to a police report. 

Police said the owner noticed the chainsaw was missing on Friday, July 20 around 8 a.m. but waited to file a report thinking someone from his workplace might have had it.
