Police Arrest Man They Say Fled Scene of Fatal Deerfield Township Crash

Fowlerville man, 27, could be arraigned Friday in collision that killed a Howell man and injured a Hartland woman.

A 27-year-old Fowlerville man has been arrested on charges of fleeing the scene of an Oct. 30 accident that killed a Howell man and injured a Hartland woman who were walking on Center Road near Mack Road in Deerfield Township, according to the Livingston County Sheriff's Department.

The man's name is not being released pending arraignment, which could happen Friday.

Police say he was the one behind the wheel, not his 27-year-old fiance, who initially led investigators to believe she was driving during the crash because the man had been drinking and on parole.

She was arrested but later released and now faces a charge of filing a false police report, the report said.

The crash occurred at about 3:30 a.m, killing , 47. Lisa Vail, 33, was injured and taken the hospital for observation. No update on her condition was available.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, the release said.
