Police Brief: 2 Men Arrested in Howell Are Suspects in Hartland Check Fraud Case

The men are accused of trying to steal more than $185 in items from a Kroger store.

Two men from Pontiac — who were recently arrested on the suspicion of attempting to cash a bad check at a Kroger in Howell — are targets in a similar fraud investigation at the in Hartland, according to the Livingston County Sheriff's Department.

Police said they believe the men went to the Howell store after the Hartland Kroger manager called store security April 8 when she recognized the men from an incident at the store the previous night. At 10 p.m. April 7, the men reportedly attempted to use a bad check to buy more than $185 in items at the Hartland Kroger but left after the store refused to accept the check, a police report said.
