Police Brief: Meijer Employee Accused of Taking Range of Items

Woman accused of not paying for items that include candy and a T-shirt.

A woman working for the could face an embezzlement charge after police say she stole items that ranged from Godiva Chocolate to a Valentine's Day Peanuts T-shirt.

Police searched the woman's car Friday afternoon after Meijer's loss prevention officers called to inform them they found the T-shirt and a bar of soap that the woman later said she "took," according to a Livingston County Sheriff Department report.

Police said the woman said she intended to buy the items but "forgot" while the store's fraud investigator said the woman made multiple trips to her vehicle without paying. She was later escorted off the property, the report said.

Other items reported stolen — which are worth slight more than $50 — were Taste of Home Magazine, Mike's Hard Lemonade, a six-pack of Coca-Cola, a jug of Meijer organic milk, almond slices, Wilton Sprinkles, a bottle of Simply Organge Juice and a tomato, the report said.

The woman was released pending charges. The case has been forwarded to the Livingston County Prosecutor's Office for review.
