Police Briefs: Woman Tells Deputy She Stole from Walmart for Grandchild

A Hartland teen faces possible shoplifting charges, and a break-in is reported at a Tyrone Township home.

A 60-year-old Howell woman facing possible retail fraud charges told police she tried to steal from the in Hartland for her grandchild, according to the Livingston County Sheriff's Department.

Police said the woman is accused of taking items worth $175, including children's clothes, candy, a vase and fake flowers, at about 8 p.m. April 1. Walmart security also detained a 40-year-old woman who lives at the same address, according to a police report.

The women were released after police found that neither had outstanding warrants. Police have forwarded the case to the Livingston County Prosecutor's Office for review.

Hartland teen accused of taking $200 in clothing from Target

A 14-year-old Hartland girl could face retail fraud charges after security for the in Hartland stopped her with a backpack full of clothes worth more than $200 as she and a friend were leaving the store, according to the Livingston County Sheriff's Department.

The girl, who was questioned by police with her father's permission, said she and a friend put the items in a backpack after they walked to the store just before noon April 2.

Target security did not detain the friend because she didn't have stolen items in her possession, police said. The 14-year-old declined to identify her, police said.

Police have forwarded the case to the Livingston County Prosecutor's Office for review.

Break-in reported in Tyrone Township

A Tyrone Township woman who is in the process of moving to another community reported to police that her home was broken into and several items were stolen, according to the Livingston County Sheriff's Department.

The woman, 59, told police the incident occurred between 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. April 1 at the home, which is in the 8400 block of Carole Lane. She said her front door was locked, but she had left the rear sliding door unlocked. Police found no signs of forced entry, the report said.

A list of what was taken hasn't been provided, according to the police report.
