Police Say Teen Buglarized Home For Drugs But Found Family Instead

Neighbor stops suspect, 16, after he was seen running away from the Brighton Township residence.

A 16-year-old Brighton area boy told state police he entered a Brighton Township home through an unlocked door Tuesday morning looking for drugs.

But instead two children, 9 and 12, found him in the kitchen and they alerted their father who reported a burglary in progress at about 8 a.m., according to a news release from the State Police Post in Brighton.

The teen fled from the home in the 11000 block of Newman Road, but he was stopped by a neighbor whom the father had alerted, state police said. Nothing was reported taken from the home, which is in a neighborhood about halfway between Brighton and Hartland, police said.

The teen was taken into custody, but later released to his parents, police said.
