Shoplifter Suspected of Stealing More than $600 Worth of Merchandise

A woman is suspected of shoplifting more than $600 worth of items from two different clothing stores, according to a police report from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department. 

Police say an employee from the Gap store in the Tanger Outlet Mall contacted police regarding a retail fraud in progress after observing on camera a female putting clothing items from the store into a shopping bag.

The female suspect arrived with another woman, according to the report, but the other woman was not seen taking any items.

According to the report, after the suspect saw one police officer enter the store, she placed the shopping bag under a rack of clothes and left, but was stopped by a different officer on scene who was waiting outside the store. 

Police say the suspect gave the officers a wrong name and then admitted that she had been planning on stealing some of the items in the bag.

When police retrieved the bag left in the store, they found items from Old Navy with no receipt. The suspect admitted to taking those clothing items valued at more than $45.

Police say there was 33 items from the Gap found in the shopping bag, valued at more than $600.

The suspect was transported to the Livingston County Jail without incident.

Alarm triggered at Brighton store 

A break in occurred at the Dream Factory in Brighton, according to a report from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department.

Police say that on Dec. 18, they responded to an alarm from the store at 3:30 a.m. and when they arrived on scene, saw that glass from the front door had been broken.

No other alarms were triggered from inside the location and police say that the officer on scene did not find any suspects in the store.

According to the report, an employee was contacted and after searching the store did not find any items missing.
