UPDATE: Victim Shot While Taking Out Trash, He Tells Police

Injury to Deerfield Township man, 48, called 'non life-threatening.'

A Deerfield Township man told police he was shot Sunday when he was taking out the trash to the road, state police said Tuesday.

James Owings, 48, said he was approached by two people inside a midsize vehicle wearing ski masks at the end of his driveway, according to Mark Thompson, police sergeant of the Brighton Post.

Owings said he was talking to them about who lived at the home — which is in the 7100 block of Allen Road — when the passenger stuck a rifle out the window, according to Thompson. Owings pushed the rifle away and was shot in the shoulder, Thompson said.
