A Michigan nurse who threatened two children with a gun before stealing their teddy bears is headed to jail.

Denise Louise Powell, 45, formerly of Hamburg Township, blamed her crime on her drinking when she was sentenced to six months in jail Thursday in Livingston County Circuit Court, The Livingston County Daily Press & Argus reports.

“I do need help with my drinking,” she reportedly said. “It’s obviously clear my life is a mess, and I’d like to fix that.”

Her sentence stems from an incident last July when she stole 10 collectible Steiff teddy bears at a garage sale in Hamburg Township.

After Powell is released from jail, she will wear an electronic monitoring device for another six months. She also was sentenced to 93 days in jail for assault and battery for threatening the children with a gun. It’s not clear how old the children were at the time of the theft.

Another example of the lost maternal instinct that some women have when it comes to children. Must be an imbalance of testosterone levels. P3

Threatening children with a gun and this is all she gets? Was it a real gun? That's crazy. I hope she no longer has access to any guns.
