Candidate Q&A: Jennifer Nash, Treasurer of Livingston County

Jennifer Nash, R- will be running for treasurer of Livingston County in the Aug. 7 primary election.

Patch: How long have you lived in Livingston County?

Nash: 31 years

Patch: What community and civic organizations are you currently involved in?

Nash:

  • Livingston County United Way
  •  Howell Chamber of Commerce
  • St.Joseph Catholic Church
  • Livingston County Republican Party

Patch: What personal and professional experiences make you qualified to hold that position?

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Corporate Accounting from Cleary University.  I have worked in the Treasurer's Office for the past 14 years. I began in an entry level position and earned my way to Senior Accountant. I know first hand, the details of the work handled in the Treasurer's Office.  This makes me a "hands on" leader as I understand "how" the work gets done.

Patch: What is the most important issue facing the county related to your position and what do you intend to do about it during your term in office?

The most important issue is the continued strive to do more with less. The Treasurer is responsible for the financial and accounting reporting of the entire county organization.  Since my appointment as Treasurer, in November 2011, I have taken on the role of project manager for the task of replacing the County's current financial software package.  The current software is 26 years old.  As such, it functions largely on manual processes and duplicate data entry.

A new system will allow the integration of all county departments; eliminating duplicate time and effort, and increasing efficiencies.

A new system will also provide for opportunities of shared services with other entities as a means of aiding others in their quest to do more with less.

Same here. We spent most of the day and evening on Saturday at the carnival. Kids had a blast withRead More the unlimited ride band and they were able to spent time with school friends before the summer off. I didn't see any problems, fights or anything else some people seemed to be worried about. The carnival even kept rides open after 11:00pm for those last few kids that wanted to get on one more time. Hope we can get something again in September or October.
