Congressman Rogers Weighs In On Bipartisan Jobs Bill

Republican whose district represents Brighton and Hartland voted to support what the New York Times calls a "modest" measure.

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers released the following statement Thursday after the House of Representatives voted 405-16 to pass H.R. 674 that his office said would help employers add jobs:

"Today the U.S. House of Representatives passed another piece of our plan to allow the private sector to create jobs. I was proud to support this bipartisan legislation which will reduce the complexity, paperwork and costs that make it difficult for small businesses to do business with the federal government.

"By repealing burdensome withholding requirements, this legislation will make it easier for businesses of all sizes to hire and plan for the future. Without this legislation, job creators would be saddled with billions more compliance and tax costs next year.

"Reducing uncertainty is one of the keys to getting our economy moving again. The Senate should immediately pass this common-sense legislation and send it to President Obama, who included this proposal as part of his plan presented earlier in a Joint Session of Congress."

The New York Times called passage of the bill "modest," noting that the requirement repealed had yet to be implemented. The article also said it's likely the Senate would support the proposal.
