House GOP unveils action plan for 2013-14 session

Reps. Denby, Rogers ready to get to work on moving Michigan forward.

State Reps. Cindy Denby and Bill Rogers today applauded the unveiling of an action plan of policy goals and objectives for the current legislative session designed to encourage a healthy economy and raise the standard of living in Michigan.

Denby and Rogers say they are eager to get to work on creating an efficient and effective state government that is accountable to its people, while also focusing on issues that will have positive long-term impacts, such as improving education.

"We have made great progress in reducing barriers to job creation," said Denby, R-Handy Township. "This term, I plan to focus on continuing to break down regulatory rules that are overly restrictive and getting government to a shape and size that works best for all residents."

"This new plan gives the public an outline for what's ahead so that we can take input and craft solutions," said Rogers, R-Brighton. "It will also help hold us accountable for the outcomes of new policies. I'm most looking forward to working on issues such as early childhood education."

The action plan also highlights proposed changes to other issues, such enhancing vocational educational opportunities to prepare our workforce to match employment demands, simplifying our state’s tax code while working to reduce the overall tax burden on Michigan’s taxpayers, and reducing the stringency of occupational licensing rules to get residents back to work faster.

The House GOP's Guiding Principles document, unveiled in January 2011, became a blueprint for reform and responsible leadership during the historic 2011-2012 legislative session.
