UPDATE: Rainy Forecast Alters Planned Weekend Lane Closures

U.S. 23 project to be delayed but I-96 roadwork still on, MDOT says.

A rainy forecast for this weekend has forced MDOT to delay a planned single-lane closure on southbound U.S. 23 at Lee Road, but work on westbound I-96 is still scheduled.

That project is set to begin 8:30 p.m. Friday with a double-lane closure on westbound I-96 between the northbound U.S. 23 ramp and Spencer Road. The lanes should reopen by 8 a.m. the Saturday morning.

Ramps should not be closed, but between 7 a.m. and noon, the ramp from northbound U.S. 23 to westbound I-96 will be closed to clean up from an earlier accident, the email said.

While closed, a detour will directs motorists north on U.S. 23 to eastbound I-96 to Kensington Road back to westbound I-96.
