Salvation Army of Livingston County will Host Summer Lunch Bunch

The school year is winding down, which is very exciting for most Michigan children, but also causes an issue for families who rely on free or reduced lunches for their children during the school year. School being out can cause issues for local families already struggling to provide for their children. The Salvation Army of Livingston County has stepped up to help feed these local children by once again hosting the Summer Lunch Bunch program.

The program provides a free meal once a week and a box of food for lunch the remainder of the week for pre-registered families. After lunch, there are activities for the children to do, including crafts and games. Lunch Bunch runs three days a week in three locations throughout Livingston County from June 19 until August 9. The locations this summer are: Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Brighton, Centerpointe Church in Howell, and Munn Middle School in Fowlerville.

I saw how valuable this program is to our community while volunteering last year and was so impressed by the difference it makes to the lives of local families in need. I want to commend the Salvation Army and its volunteers for helping feed local families during the summer who may have otherwise gone hungry. Residents interested in applying for the program, or those interested in volunteering should contact the Salvation Army at (517) 546-4750.
