Hartland to Centralize MEAP Administration in Wake of State Probe at Elementary School

Superintendent announces change in statement released in advance of final report that's expected Thursday.

Hartland educators will now have to come to the district's central office to pick up MEAP tests before handing them out to students, a change that comes into how the exams were handled this year at .

In the past, the test was distributed to teachers at at the building level by principals, but Hartland School District Superintendent Janet Sifferman announced the change Wednesday, saying it would ensure there would be no question about the test's integrity in the future.

The statement comes one day before the Michigan Department of Education is expected to make a final report public on its investigation.

The state already has determined that there and ordered alternative tests at Creekside in September. District officials have previously said this was after the state objected to then Principal Tracey Sahouri inside her office. Sahouri has since been .

Sifferman said that's she's reviewed the report in recent days and says the district's own investigation found similar findings. She calls what happened "pre-test irregularities."

“I feel strongly that the district acted appropriately in conducting its own investigation into this matter," she said. "Our conclusions are similar to those of the MDE and that is why I have taken steps to ensure that this situation does not occur again in our district."
