Hartland School Board Member Resigning Seat

Robert Perkins cited work-related extended travel for departure.

Hartland Board of Education Trustee Robert Perkins — who has been unable to attend most meetings in the past year because his work as a consultant in the auto industry — is resigning his seat effective Oct. 31, Superintendent Janet Sifferman announced during Monday's meeting.

"As we know his work duties have been ever increasing and taking him out of Hartland and he just feels he can't do it justice to be on the board," Sifferman said. "He's very appriciative about his time on the board and all the information he has helped us gather and the advice he has given us and leadership he has given us. I am very saddened, but I'm sure we can find someone to replace him."

Hartland Patch was unable to reach Perkins on Tuesday.

The board is now seeking applications to serve through the end of the 2011-12 school year. The appointee would then face an election in May to fill out the rest of Perkins' term that goes until June 2013.

Those interested in the seat should send letters and resumes to Board President Kevin Kaszyca at the , 9525 Highland Rd, Howell, MI 48843. The fax number is 810-626-2101. The deadline for applications must be received by Thursday, Oct 20. Applicants will be interviewed during a 6:30 p.m. special meeting Monday, Oct. 24, in the board room of the Support Service Center.

If the board can't fill the seat within 30 days, the Livingston Educational Service Agency, the countywide intermediate school district, will make the appointment, Sifferman said.

"I'm sure we'd like to appoint our own person," Sifferman said.
