Hartland Schools Stay Open Monday Despite 'Challenging' Conditions

"Obviously it is always a difficult call, and regardless of the decision, there are those who disagree. Ultimately, it is always parents who make the final call regarding their family's circumstances and what is best for their children.'

Despite the dropping temperatures and slippery road conditions Monday morning, Hartland Consolidated Schools made the decision to remain open on Jan. 27.
Issuing a statement on the district's Facebook page, the administration explained their decision to forgo another Snow Day for the school year.
The message read:

This has been an extremely challenging winter! Rarely are we barely through January when we have already used up all of our “snow days”, and this winter, snow hasn't even been the primary concern. Once again this week, we will encounter wind chill temperatures more than 20 degrees below zero with the actual temperature barely above “0."

Our Director of Operations and Transportation Supervisor, with their team of “road checkers”, were on the roads at 2:30 this morning making sure our buses would be able to safely transport our students.

Please be aware that, as the district does offer transportation to all students residing within Hartland Consolidated Schools, our road checkers are determining whether our buses can safely navigate their routes and it is this information that is used when determining whether to cancel school due to road conditions.

Our Superintendent also communicates with the other county superintendents as well as the superintendents in neighboring districts in Genesee County, who have similar protocols in place, before making a final determination.

Obviously it is always a difficult call, and regardless of the decision, there are those who disagree. Ultimately, it is always parents who make the final call regarding their family’s circumstances and what is best for their children.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this particularly difficult season.
