New Fitness Equipment Approved for Students, Community at Hartland High School

Treadmills and weights among items to be installed over holiday break.

More than $41,000 in new fitness equipment including treadmills and weights for use by the community and students in the weight room was approved Monday by the school board.

Installation is slated for during the district's holiday break that starts next month, said Michelle Otis, head of Hartland Community Education. Other items include new medicine balls and platforms for weightlifting, Otis said.

"It's going to be awesome," she said.

The room is used by students and is part of a community fitness center that's open to the community from 5-9 p.m. Monday through Friday. It costs $4 per visit.

Direct Fitness Solutions, of Mundelein, IL, was awarded the bid out of eight vendors who sought the contract. It was the lowest complete bid submitted, according to board documents.
