On the Agenda: Highlights Include a Talk by a Trailblazing Senator, School Election

Other events include meetings by the community council, Township Board and the county redistricting panel.

This week features a mix of events headlined by Tuesday's school election in which the polls will be open from 7-8 p.m. On the ballot is a school board seat on the Hartland Board of Education and an 18-mill non-homestead tax renewal that officials say is critical for district funding. Here are some other events that might catch your eye:

  • 7 p.m. Monday former state Sen. Valde Garcia is scheduled to speak at the main branch of the , 3688 Hartland Rd, as Michigan's first Hispanic elected to that office. Garcia's district included the Hartland area.
  • 7 p.m. Monday the meets in the media center at , 3250 Hartland Rd, to discuss planning for the upcoming Memorial Day parade and Heritage Day in September.
  • 2 p.m. Tuesday the panel empowered shape how Livingston County Commissioner districts will be redrawn in light of the 2010 census is scheduled to meet at the county Administration Building, 304 E. Grand River Ave, in Howell in the first floor conference room. An issue affecting Hartland Township is whether to include it in one or more districts. Currently, it is in two.
  • 7 p.m. Wednesday the Hartland Township Board of Trustees is meeting at , 2655 Clark Rd. The school election moved the meeting back one day. See PDFs for an agenda.
