Hartland Students Deliver Thank You Messages to Local Firefighters

Hannah Schultz and Raven O'Rourke delivered handwritten thank you notes to the Hartland Fire Department as a random act of kindness.

Carrying more than 35 “thank you” letters handwritten by their fellow classmates, two Hartland High School students visited the Hartland Fire Department last week to share a random act of kindness.

Hannah Schultz and Raven O'Rourke, both high school juniors, had set up a table during their lunch period where students were able to stop by and write notes to the local firefighters with messages such as “Thank you for protecting us - you guys rock,” and  “ You have inspired me, thank you.”

Delivering their random act of kindness messages to the fire department, the Hartland students said they have enjoyed surprising people with many of the other random acts they have done throughout their school year.

As part of a project for their school's Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) group, the two girls chose to do different random acts of kindness each month.

So far this year, Hannah and Raven have spent a whole day baking cupcakes for teachers and students, delivered more thank you letters to school staff members and passed out hot chocolate.

“It’s really fun,” Hannah said. “I love it.”

Watching as the student messages were pinned to the fire station’s bulletin board, Hartland Firefighter Dave Korponic said it’s always nice to be appreciated and enjoyed seeing the two young students take the initiative to thank the firefighters for their service.

“It’s good to see them,” he said. “You see the excitement, the smiles on their faces and hopefully down the road, they’re good, productive citizens and they’ll do this stuff as they get older. It’s great.”
