UPDATE: Storm Buries Area in 7 to 11 Inches of Snow

No major accidents reported as Hartland schools close.

A late February winter storm dumped seven to 11 inches of snow on Metro Detroit in time for Presidents Day, forcing the Hartland School District to close on Monday.

Area totals ranged from 7.2 inches northwest of Whitmore Lake and nine inches in White Lake to 11.1 inches in Burton near Flint, according storm totals provided by the National Weather Service.

Livingston County Central Dispatch reported no major accidents as of 8:30 a.m. but said there were several minor incidents throughout the county.

Hartland Community Education activities were canceled, but the the district operates remained open, according to an announcement posted on the district's Web site.

Monday's forecast is for scattered flurries with a high near 25, according to the NWS.

The snow began in Hartland about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, quickly clogging roads and blanketing lawns following a week of temperatures that broke 50 degrees at times.

Most government offices, including Hartland Township Hall, are closed for the Presidents Day holiday.
