UPDATED: Wrestling Varsity, JV Win Tourneys; Girls Bowling Rolls Past South Lyon; Cheer Fifth at Big Event

WRESTLING — The varsity team won the Wyandotte Roosevelt tournament Saturday while the JV captured the Livonia Clarenceville tourney, according to @hartlandsports.

The Eagles' Mitchel Thomas won the Wyandotte event's outstanding wrestler and Justin Rollins captured the same award at the Clarenceville tournament, @hartlandsports tweeted.

Thomas, who wrestles at 152 pounds, was 4-0 during the 19-team event, according to an article in the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus.

"He was dominant," Hartland coach Todd Cheney told the newspaper. "He wrestled outstanding."

Hartland ended the tournament with 271 points as Austin Eicher, Justin Charneski and Matt Ostermiller also captured individual titles. Roosevelt took second with 133, the article said.

Hartland next is on the mat 5:30 p.m. Wednesday against Pinckney and Milford during a quad at Pinckney.

BOYS AND GIRLS BOWLING — The girls downed South Lyon 17-13 while the boys narrowly lost to the same school 15.5-14.5, according Hartland coach Ron Heck.

Leading the girls, now 4-2-1 on the year, was Sarah Schmitz, who rolled a 201 and a 150. Despite the loss, the boys had three strong performances: Ryan Lane rolled 392 for two games, Josh Blanchard shot a 244 en route to a 408 and Mark Kaczmarek was steady with a 211 and a 213 (424 series).

The boys, now 1-6 for the season, were ahead 13-6, but South Lyon averaged nearly 220 a player in the second game complete the comeback.

Both teams are competing again Sunday at a tournament in Owosso.

COMPETITIVE CHEER — Hartland finished fifth among Division 1 teams Saturday in the Grandville Invitational, according to results posted at the website Michigan High School Competitive Cheer.

West Ottawa won the event, which attracts some of the state's top teams, with 798.5520 points. A summary of results:

BOYS AND GIRLS BASKETBALL — The girls dominated Howell in a 49-13 away win Friday while the boys were soundly defeated 72-42 by the Highlanders at home, according to an article in the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus.

Bailee Maggert and Mallory Slavin each scored 14 points for the Eagles, who up their record to 6-1, the article said. Stephen Milarch tossed-in 16 points to lead the boys, who dropped to 0-5.

The Press & Argus also published a photo gallery of the boys game.

The girls next host Pinckney 7 p.m. Tuesday while the boys travel to Pinckney for a 7 p.m. tip-off Tuesday.

CHARYL STOCKWELL BOYS BASKETBALL — CSPA improved to 2-3 on the year with a 42-25 win over West Highland Christian on Friday, according to an article in the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus.

Tyler Verbeke netted 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for CSPA, the article said.

Thursday

BOYS AND GIRLS BOWLING — The boys team notched its first win of the season Thursday with a 16-14 win over Milford.

Three Eagles averaged more than 200 for two games: Mark Kaczmarek who rolled a 232 and a 188, Ryan Lane who scored a 212 and a 193 and Josh Blanchard who tallied a 210 and a 191. The team is now 1-5 on the year.

"This … may be the spring board we needed for the rest of the season," coach Ron Heck said in an email.

The girls team fought back from being down 10 to tie Milford 15-15. Sam Moesta shot a 221 and a 209 for a 430 series. The Eagles are now 3-2-1 on the season.

Both squads are back in action Saturday against South Lyon and a tournament Sunday in Owosso.

BOARDERCROSS — The team competed in a time trial Thursday with individual results that have been posted to the team's Facebook page.

Wednesday

WRESTLING — Hartland defeaterd Walled Lake Center 53-18 and Lakeland 74-0 on Wednesday during a quad at Lakeland, according to hartlandwrestling.com.

Matt Iceberg (285) scored pins in both matches for Hartland while Jacob Gorial (119), Marcus Lopez (135), Anthony Colaianne (140) and Nate Smith (152), Michael Thomas (160) also had two wins over opposing wrestlers on the day, according to results posted on michigangrapper.com.

"Those guys all really stepped up tonight," Hartland coach Todd Cheney told the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus. "It's a good starter for us back after Christmas."

The wins improve the Eagles to 10-1 on the year.

Hartland next competes in a 10 a.m. tournament Saturday at Wyandotte Roosevelt.

COMPETITIVE CHEER — Hartland posted wins against Pinckney and Milford during a quad competition Wednesday at Milford, according to the Kensington Lakes Activities Association's website.

Hartland next competes noon Saturday in an invitational at Grandville.

HOCKEY — Hartland won 6-2 over Walled Lake Western on Wednesday, according to the Kensington Lakes Activities Association's website.

The Eagles scored three short-handed goals and overcame a 2-1 deficit in a game at the Kensington Valley Ice House in Brighton, according to an article in the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus.

Hartland, 6-4-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the KLAA, next play 7 p.m. Thursday against Detroit Country Day at the

GIRLS BASKETBALL — Hartland defeated Holly 48-36 on the road Tuesday to improve to 5-1 on the season, according to an article in the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus.

Lindsay Pajot scored 16 points to lead the Eagles, according to the article.

Hartland next plays 7 p.m. Friday at Howell.

CHARYL STOCKWELL BOYS BASKETBALL — Jordan Benjamin led CSPA with 13 points Tuesday in a close 57-55 loss to Eastern Washtenaw Multicultural Academy, according to an article in the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus.

CSPA, 1-2 on the season, missed a shot at the buzzer to tie, the article said.
