Cromaine District Library Hopes to Score With Fantasy Football Event

7 p.m. Thursday session features a phone interview with Santana Moss and tips.

If you had to pick among Michael Vick, Tom Brady or Matthew Stafford — whom would you start at quarterback? Or, who is the fifth-best running back in NFL? And, what does it mean when the league's best offense takes on the best defense?

Hartland area fantasy football gurus Scott Taggart, Dennis Farrell and Nick Tucker can help. With the professional football season starting this week, the trio are hosting an event on fantasy football 7 p.m. Thursday at the of the Cromaine District Library that features a scheduled phone interview with Washington Redskins wide receiver Santana Moss. The session — in which Farrell and Tucker will be broadcasting their online radio show called Fantasysidelineshow.com — also will include Q&A and a possible appearance by former Michigan State running back TJ Duckett.

"Fantasysidelineshow.com covers fantasy baseball and football," said Farrell. "We also talk video games, television and movies. We try not to over-talk sports by mixing in other subjects."

Farrell describes the event as a place to kick back and talk about fantasy football in a manner that will not seem daunting to the viewers and patrons.

"We will sit down and talk about draft strategies and disecting a draft without being nerdy or boring," said Farrell. "We will not talk about numbers because I believe it scares off the viewers. We're all about making it simple."

Taggart is a veteran fantasy football player who has contributed to websites dedicated to fantasy football and has won 17 championships since he started participating in 1994.

"I have written multiple articles for fantasy football websites. I have written articles on draft strategies, a weekly article that reviewed the previous week’s games and the impact of those games on player values, weekly player rankings," said Taggart. "I have also written a weekly segment where I simply talked or wrote about whatever crossed my mind while I was watching the NFL games."

Taggart said he is looking to spread his enjoyment of the game to others that attend the event, regardless of skill level or familiarity.

"I am hoping that I can help make the game more enjoyable for someone, help someone feel better about their team, offer some insight, as well as gain some insight from those in attendance, into the game of fantasy football," said Taggart.

"Fantasy football is as much an interaction between peers as a game of competition. Part of the fun of the game is to talk with other fantasy football players. Like any hobby, talking with others who enjoy the same hobby only adds to the pleasure."
