Eagles Sports Round- Up Starting Feb. 20

Girl's basketball takes a hard loss against Waterford-Kettering. The team will host Novi on Wednesday in the consolation game.

GIRLS BASKETBALL- The lady Eagles suffered a tough loss last night against Waterford Kettering with a score of 43-32, according to coach Don Palmer, who said the girls stayed strong through the first three quarters but ended up being outscored in the fourth 16 to 9.  

"Kettering (18-1) is an outstanding team," Palmer wrote in an email to Patch. "And defended us very well the entire evening. We did not shoot the ball very well but they had much to do with our struggles."

Lindsey Pajot lead the team with 7 points and Bailee Maggert had 6 points.

BOYS SWIMMING- The Hartland Boys Swimming and Diving team won the KLAA West Division Meet on Sunday after a perfect dual meet season, according to the team's website.

The team scored 675 points for the win crushing the second place team, Brighton, who finished with 530 points.

The Eagles won 7 of 12 events including two more state qualifying times in the 400 Free Relay (Matt Polkowski, Trey Conner, James Strandbergh, Jacob Scherba) and Matt Polkowski in the 100 Fly.

In this meet, the top 16 swimmers score points for their team. Scorers for the Eagles included the following:

200 Free - Polkowski (1st), Ballou (4th), Ryan Egeland (6th), Michael Terrio (7th), Nick Zayan (9th)

200 IM - Strandbergh (1st), Condra (2nd), Conner (4th), Zach Vitta (7th), Donald Gusfa (15th)

50 Free - Scherba (3rd), Pelland (4th), Erich Leazer (10th), James Hansen (15th)

Diving - Jonas Zebari (5th), Mitchell McCann (6th),  Chris Cencer (12th)

100 Fly - Polkowski (1st), Conner (2nd)

100 Free - Scherba (2nd), Leazer (8th), Pelland (9th), Charlie Locker (11th)

500 Free - Ballou (1st), Terrio (2nd), Egeland (3rd), Sven Stroven (5th), Zayan (7th), Gusfa (9th

100 Back - Condra (1st), Vitta (3rd), Locker (6th), Gramer (7th), Breece (8th)

100 Breast - Strandbergh (1st), Stroven (3rd), Hansen (13th)

BOYS BASKETBALL-  The Eagles picked up their third consecutive win against Lakeland on Friday with a score of 55-49, according to the Press & Argus. Dylan Videto had 16 points and eight rebounds for Hartland and Stephen Milarch scored 12 points for the team.

SKI TEAM- Hartland junior Mallory Reader, who placed sixth in the slalom with a time of 41.35 and eighth in the giant slalom with a time of 36.75, qualified for the Division 1 state girls skiing finals from Thursday's regional meet held at Alpine Valley.

This is Reader's the third straight year qualifying for the event.

Senior Rhianna Dilworth qualified in the giant slalom, as well, according to the Press & Argus.

WRESTLING- Ten Hartland wrestlers qualified to move on to the state finals this weekend in Grand Haven, tying a school record from 2005, according to the Press & Argus. The Division 1 individual finals will be held March 1-3 at The Palace of Auburn Hills. The ten wrestlers include:

  • Freshman Jacob Gorial (112 pounds)
  • Sophomores Nate Hughes (103), Austin Eicher (119) Anthony Colaianne (140) and Justin Rollins
  • Junior Mitchel Thomas (152) and Chad Maks (160)
  • Seniors Justin Charneski (171) Brian Braun (215) and Matt Ostermiller (189).

GIRLS BASKETBALL- The Lady Eagles play tonight and are hoping for a big win to clinch the Lakes conference title. The girls will be travelling to Waterford Kettering. Game time is at 7 p.m.
