Hartland's Heritage Day

Hartland’s Heritage Day includes scarecrows, performances, arts and crafts, a pet parade, a petting zoo, a classic cars and antique tractor show, a library book sale and a historic village hayride tour -- all taking place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17.

All events are free unless otherwise stated.

Encore hosts open rehearsals from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. as well as a student interactive "improve" session from 2-4 p.m. at the Hartland Music Hall as part of its fopen house.

Dress up your pet and walk in the pet parade, sponsored by Camp Bow Wow. Sign up for the 11 a.m. pet show on the chamber lawn before you start walking in the parade.

The pet parade starts at 10 a.m. on the corner of Crouse and Hartland roads; it ends at Cromaine District Library-Village, where, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. you can buy a bag of books for $5 at the Friends' Fall Book Sale.

Other events beginning at 10 a.m. include:

-A free classic car display that runs throughout the event on Cromaine's lawn and a tractor display is offered on the chamber of commerce's lawn.

-Tours of the newly-renovated Florence B. Dearing Museum, which continue through 3 p.m.

-The Old Tyme School House featuring old books and old-fashioned games.

-MOSAIC, a classic rock band), plays on the Chamber of Commerce lawn. (The event's sponsored by Ore Creek
Community Church).

-Petting zoo on the music hall lawn all day, sponsored by  Ranger's 4-H.

Hartland historic village hayride guided tours begin at 10:30 a.m. Sign up in front of Hartland Chamber for this free event.

Meet at noon in Hartland Cemetery for a living tour from noon-2 p.m. complete with costumed re-enactors to guide you through the historic cemetery.

Events taking place between 11 a.m.-3 p.m. include sanctuary tours of the Hartland United Methodist Church and the church-hosted community flea market, a blacksmith demonstration at Avon and School streets, Hartland fire truck display (Hibner and Washington), Civil War re-enactors' encampment at Avon and School streets and a face painter in Avon Street (this has a cost).

Also featured are an interactive now and then photo exhibit of Hartland in Waldenwoods Gazebo, a relay race called The Fastest Farmer, a Farmer's Market, Furry Friend's Rescue at Companion Animal Hospital and a variety of family-friendly activities sponsored by school PTOs.

Starting Thursday, Sept. 8 at noon, the Heritage Day booklet will be available at Cromaine District Library (Village and Crossroads branches), Big Boy, the Hartland Chamber, and in the hands of the advertisers. A full schedule is in the booklet's center. There also is a list of all the participants included, etc.

Handicapped parking is in Cromaine Library’s Henry Street lot (south of cemetery). Also, a complimentary shuttle from Spranger Field, courtesy of the Lions Club and LaFontaine Automotive Group.
