Hartland Boys and Girls Ski Teams Compete at KLAA Meet

Boys team is eighth, girls are sixth.

The boys and girls ski teams competed in the KLAA meet on Monday at Alpine Valley, with the boys team taking eighth and the girls, sixth.

Lakeland's boys took first in the team standings, followed by Grand Blanc, Walled Lake Northern, Brighton/East Lansing, Novi, Milford, Waterford United, Hartland, South Lyon, Walled Lake Central, Howell, Walled Lake Western and Pinckney.

In the individual slalom races, Hartland's boys competed in a field of 77 racers and placed fourth as a team. John Merchant, of Walled Lake Northern, won in the slalom and giant (16.68 and 20.86, for a total of 37.54). Hartland's Rocky Crotty placed seventh with times of 18.01 and 22.00, for a total of 40.01. Other Hartland times were Carter Janssen's 18.91 and 24.02 (22nd place), Cameron Wheeler's 19.16 and 25.47 (29th), Grant Comly's 20.06 and 25.14 (33rd), Dan Aberasturi's 21.67 and 26.25 (42nd) and Joe Haig's 22.33 and 29.41 (52nd).

In the boys individual giant slalom, Hartland had a team place of ninth. Lakeland's Taylor Janssen took top honors with times of 15.93 and 16.20. Crotty was 23rd, with 17.43 and 17.62; Wheeler was 35th with 17.92 and 18.66, Comly was 39th with 17.90 and 18.83, Carter Janssen was 43rd with 19.06 and 18.39, Aberasturi was 46th with 18.31 and 19.45, and Haig was 63rd with 19.85 and 19.87.

For the girls teams, Walled Lake Central won, followed by Walled Lake Northern, Grand Blanc, Lakeland, Brighton/East Lansing, Hartland, Howell, Walled Lake Western, Pinckney, South Lyon, Novi, Milford and Waterford United.

For the individual girls slalom, there were 74 girls competing. Hartland's team placed sixth. Walled Lake Central's Mallory Slicker was first with times of 18.67 and 17.74. For Hartland, Mallory Reader was ninth with 19.93 and 19.23, Rhianna Dilworth was 14th with 20.88 and 19.93, Carly Nylander was 45th with 25.24 and 23.57, Jessica Schnable was 49th with 25.12 and 24.88, Nicole Wistinghausen was 62nd with 27.44 and 27.01, and Haley David was 63rd with 36.92 and 21.04.

In the girls giant slalom, Hartland's team placed fourth. Lakeland's Kelsey Griffin was first with times of 18.53 and 19.25. For Hartland, Reader was third with times of 18.77 and 19.58, Dilworth was 14th with 19.97 and 20.47, David was 27th with 20.51 and 21.36, Schnabel was 40th with 21.81 and 21.71, Nylander was 46th with 21.98 and 22.48, and Wistinghausen was 59th with 23.63 and 23.66.
