Hartland Equestrian Team Wins 13th Straight District Title

Eagles look to qualify for the state finals at regionals Oct. 1-2.

The Hartland Equestrian team rode past Owosso and Pinckney to win its 13th straight district championship.

The Eagles scored 813 to top Owosso's 642 and Pinckney's 353 during an event that was held on two separate weeks at the Shiawassee Fairgrounds in Corunna.

Leading Hartland was Kendra Hull — who scored the highest number of points of any rider with 156 points. The Eagles had four more in the top 10: Jake Myers (fourth, 92), Danielle Tester (fifth, 89), Dan Tyson (sixth, 79) and Chelsea Wojcieckowski (ninth, 65).

The victory included outscoring Owosso by 131 on Sept. 8 after the two were only separated by 40 after the first weekend of competition on Aug. 27-28.

The Hartland squad — which next competes at regionals Oct. 1-2 at the Shiawassee Fairgrounds — has 17 riders, each of whom specializes in different equine disciplines.

The classes that the riders participate in are western, hunt, saddleseat fitting and showing, hunt seat equitation, hunt seat bareback, saddleseat equitation, saddleseat bareback, saddleseat pattern, western equitation, western bareback, western riding, equitation over fences, trail, and gymkhana. Gymkhana are timed events, involving speed and accuracy. This year's gymkhana events are two-person relay, cloverleaf barrel pattern, poles, and flag race.
