As the late Al Davis used to say, “Just win Baby!” The Hartland women’s lacrosse team continues to push on in their quest for the state title.

Hartland got up early on Saturday and travelled to Lake Orion to take on the Clarkston Wolves. Hartland had played them earlier in the season and dominated in a 20-6 win.

This Clarkston team was a much different story and they came to play with a purpose.  Hartland struggled to keep Clarkston off the board, but then Hartland closed the scoring opportunities and managed to go ahead. Clarkston was able to tie the game at six just before half time. The emotional Brighton win appeared to have caused a lag in scoring.

The second half featured a more focused Hartland squad that was able to build a cushion. Clarkston continued to claw back and pulled within one late in the game.  Hartland senior, Haley Crouse, managed to get a free shot that she put in the back of the net to get the crucial two goal lead. Tabitha Ferguson, Hartland’s goalie, continued to shine in the post season by saving tough shots.

On the ensuing draw, Clarkston got control of the ball, but the midfield defense smothered the ball carrier.  The defenders held their ground and the Clarkston player tried to run through the defenders.   A charging call was made and Hartland was granted possession.  Hartland moved the ball to their offensive end and ran the game clock out and winning the Regional Championship 13-11.

Leading the charge on offense was senior Haley Crouse.  She collected four goals.  Natalie Sochaki and Ryan Skomial scored three goals each. Rachael Sharpe, Courtney Lee, and Amy Longe contributed to the final tally by scoring one goal each.

Hartland will travel to South Lyon for the State Semi-final against Ann Arbor Pioneer. The game will be at 7pm. The community is encouraged to come and cheer the girls on in their quest for a State Championship.

Two more games and the Eagles get all the marbles.
