Hartland Sports Round-Up for the week of Feb. 27

Girls basketball beats Lakeland, 53-34. Cheer team wins Regionals, moves on to State Competition.

GIRLS BASKETBALL- Girls basketball won 53-34 over Lakeland in a Class A district semifinal Wednesday at Milford High School, according to the Press & Argus. Senior Bailee Maggert had 15 points, eight steals and five assists. Hartland (19-3) are seeking their third district title in a row and will face off with Walled Lake Northern on Friday.

CHEER-  The Hartland Cheer team took first place on Saturday at the Regional competition at the Hartland High School. The team will be competing at the State Competition this Friday at the Delta Plex in Grand Rapids.

HOCKEY- Hartland hockey took a 3-2 win over Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett on Saturday night in overtime, according to the Press & Argus. Chris McRae scored an unassisted goal with 23 seconds left in the period for the tie and then Ryan Daavettila scored just 21 seconds into overtime.

Hartland was 7-1-1 in its final nine games and finished the season with a 14-8-2 record.

SWIMMING & DIVING- The Eagles won their second straight KLAA Lakes Conference swim championship on Saturday, according to the Press & Argus. It's the first back-to-back conference titles in Hartland High School history. The team won with a score of 948.5 points.

Hartland also took first place in the three relay events, a team goal before the meet and it was a close finish in all three races.

WRESTLING- Hartland (30-4) reached the Division 1 team wrestling semifinal for the fourth consecutive year, according to the Press & Argus. The team advanced to the semifinals by defeating Temperance Bedford 28-27, on the eighth tie-breaker, which gave them the greater number of first-points in a match, 13-12 in its quarterfinal Friday.

In the semifinal, Hartland lost to top ranked Detroit Catholic Central (25-3). The Shamrocks were able to gain a big lead of 42-0 before the Eagles earned their first win from senior Matt Ostermiller (215). Other wins for the Eagles included sophomore Austin Eicher (119) and freshman Jacob Gorial (112).
