Sports Spotlight: Hartland Girls Lacrosse

• PLAYERS TO WATCH AND WHY: Senior captain and goalie Kelsey LaValley is solid in net and is a great communicator on defense. She's a great team leader and will be taking her skills to Grand Valley State University. Sophomore captain Ryan Skomial scored seven goals in the team's first game. She's a great all-around athlete who can play offense and defense with equal enthusiasm and ability.
• RECORDS: Team is 2-1 so far this season. Last year, squad finished 11-8-2 and lost in regional semifinals.
• TEAM GOAL: Would like to surpass last year's playoff run and reach the regional championship.
• COACH: Katie Gutteridge is in her first season with the Eagles and her sixth overall.
• COACH QUOTE: "They have great attitudes and they're very hard working," Gutteridge said. "They've set their goals high and they're willing to work for it. They're wonderful to coach."
• PLAYER QUOTE: "Honestly, we're like a family," Skomial said. "We hang out with each other on the weekends. It's a really special bond."
