Sports Talk: How Far Will Hartland's Hoop Teams Go?

Girls play tonight while boys Wednesday.

Welcome to Sports Talk — a forum where those who cover Hartland's teams will discuss a question either on local, state or national sports and we hope you join in with your opinion.

Today's discussion: With senior guard Matt Poches scoring a career-high 40 points last night in a big win over Howell and the girls basketball team playing the regional semifinals tonight, what are there chances, now?

(And this is just a starting point. Feel free to add other prep sports to the mix as wrestling just wrapped up over the weekend and eight Eagles will be competing in the swim finals later this week. Below a summary most of the winter sports teams at Hartland High School):

Sport Status Boys basketball against Howell in the opening round of the state playoffs. The team plays 5:30 p.m. Wednesday against Walled Lake Central.
Girls basketball plays 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (tonight) vs. Farmington Hills-Mercy at Canton the district final Friday.
Boys and girls boardercross

each in the state tournament on Feb. 11.

Competitive cheer missed the state finals by fewer than four points, after winning districts and numerous other accolades during the season. Gymnastics has finished its year with Taylor Jayne in two events. Boys hockey to Lakeland 3-2 on Thursday to end the season.

Boys swimming and diving sends eight swimmers to the blocks for the state finals later this week at Oakland University. Boys wrestling in individual state finals this past weekend.
