Varsity

The lacrosse season has seen some ups and downs. We have seen some really tight games and we have seen some blow outs. As Hartland took the field in Grand Blanc last night, it was evident that the team was loose and ready to play. While warming up on the field, many of the players were celebrating the first pleasant night of the season by dancing on occasion; they were enjoying the anticipation of the game.

The team may have been loose, but they came out and played with tenacity.  Hartland dominated the draw and maintained a majority of the possession throughout the game. Grand Blanc came out and played some really good defense to limit Hartland to just six goals in the first half.  Grand Blanc was able to post two goals in the first half.

The last time these two teams met, the score was lopsided in a 17-1 Hartland victory.  The second half proved to be a much different result.  Hartland ran off with the game by scoring eleven goals in the second half.  Ryan Skomial led all Hartland scorers with seven goals and two assists.  Rachael Sharpe followed up with four goals and an assist. Natalie Sochaki helped with two goals and an assist.  Hartland managed to get one goal from four other players.

Tabitha Ferguson faced ten shots and saved five on the night. She was very active and helped on defense by coming out of the goal to knock down passes or pick up ground balls.  The defense locked Grand Blanc down in transition and when they threatened to score for most of the evening.  Five of Grand Blanc’s goals were scored on free position shots.

As the sun went down, the game wrapped up in a 17-6 Hartland win.  Hartland’s record is currently 6-1 on the season and ranked #5 in the state according to Laxpower.  Hartland travels to Brighton for a Friday night match up at Sloan Field at 7pm.  The team is focused and ready to compete against a long-time rival.  Come out and support the girls on Friday night!

Prior to the game last night, Haley Crouse was announced as the State Farm Athlete of the Week for the week of April 23rd.  She had an outstanding week against Huron Valley and some of the best teams in the state during a weekend tournament. She finished the week with 14 goals and 4 assists.  Congratulations to Haley.
