There is plenty to do to celebrate the last weekend of summer including the Great Lakes State Fair and Arts, Beats & Eats.

Looking for something to do for the last weekend of summer?

It will be pretty quiet in Hartland, but remember to check out our calendar for some local garage sales in the area.   • Pricing: Tickets at the gate are $30 for adults and $25 for children younger than 12. The ticket includes access to all exhibits, a circus performance and rides. Parking is $5.
  • Why Go: The revamped Michigan State Fair will have animals, agricultural exhibits, circus performances, midway rides, contests, a beer tent, live entertainment and more.

  • Where: Downtown Royal Oak
  • When: Friday-Monday (11 a.m.-11 p.m. except for Monday, when it closes at 9 p.m.)
  • Cost: $3 before 5 p.m. Saturday-Monday; $5 after 5 p.m. Friday-Monday; Admission before 5 p.m. Friday is free.
  • Why go: Sample foods, listen to music and enjoy art while strolling through downtown Royal Oak.

Michigan Renaissance Festival

  • Where: Holly, MI
  • When: Now through Sept. 30.
  • Cost: $20.95 for adults, $11.95 for children
  • Why go: Take a step back in time and enjoy activities such as Pillage the Village, Knights on Bikes and Press-A-Wench.

Detroit International Jazz Festival

  • Where: Downtown Detroit
  • When: Aug. 31 - Spet. 3
  • Cost: Free
  • Why go:  The 33rd annual Detroit Jazz Festival features a one-of-a-kind lineup of today’s greatest jazz performers. The performers at this year’s festival have been nominated for and won more than 200 Grammy Awards, composed film scores and traveled the world to perform.

  • Pricing: Free
  • Why Go: Bring your chair and listen to Steve King play Classic Rock.
