The 2012 Relay for Life event officially began at 9 a.m. Saturday morning. Twenty five teams set up camp for 24-hours of walking to raise money for fight cancer.

With 302 Participants and 25 teams the current amount raised so far, according the the Relay for Life website is $34,605.

The Luminaria ceremony will start between 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. tonight according to Laura Hern the event chairperson for Relay for Life. Hern encourages families and walkers to come out and support the evening walk and says people may be surprised at what type of atmosphere they will find.

"You'd be surprised at the people that you meet here," she said. "The energy, they're sad, happy, energized. There's support and comfort."
