Successful Fundraiser Exceeds Expectations

The Salvation Army surpasses their 2011 Christmas Campaign goal.

The Salvation Army of Livingston County announced on Thursday that community donations during their Christmas Campaign fundraiser exceeded donation expectations.

In a press release to Hartland Patch, Capt. Aaron Ortman, Corps Officer of the Salvation Army said that the campaign had hoped to raise $337,000 by Jan. 1, 2012. In the end, however, due to "generous" community donations, the campaign raised over $378,000, more than 12 percent over their initial goal.

“We have always been blessed with a community that supports its neighbors through The Salvation Army and this season definitely shows this,” Ortman said in the press release. “It is a blessing to have donors who understand the importance of helping each other out and entrusting The Salvation Army with these resources.”

Donations were raised from 17 red kettle stations set up throughout the county starting from mid- November through Christmas Eve, as well as being received through the mail and online, according to Ortman.

Money raised went to help 752 families during the Christmas season, according to the press release. With the help of churches and other organizations, food, clothing and gifts were all provided to help others celebrate the holidays.

“We want to thank every person who sent in a donation, gave online, and dropped a few cents into our red kettles," Ortman said. "The Salvation Army could not operate in our community without your help!”
