Variety of Local Dance Groups To Appear In Dec. 14 and Dec. 15 Performances

WHAT: Students from Washtenaw Community College’s Performing Arts Department will partner with members of Washtenaw County dance groups to present a contemporary adaptation of the classic ballet “The Nutcracker.”

Titled, “Neo Nutcracker” – the performance will include a wide variety of dance genres – including ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, modern and swing.

The unique presentation is choreographed by WCC alumna Christine Sampier – and will include members of several local dance groups [Mav Cru, Rare Paragon Gems, Patchwerk Dance Troupe, Sole Full of Rhythm, People Dancing, Suzanne Zelnick Swingers, Randazzo  Dance Company, Community High School] performing collaboratively with WCC students.

“We are so proud to have one of our WCC alumni, Christine Sampier, return to help shape this classic ballet into a contemporary work of art,” said Noonie Anderson, program advisor/instructor in the Dance & Yoga section of the WCC Performing Arts department.  “Christine serves as a role model to our current students and embodies how a college education is the springboard for accomplishment all kinds. Come and celebrate the start of the holiday season with us – this performance will appeal to all ages and music and dance tastes. It has a little bit of everything at a very reasonable price. Attendees can look forward to being enchanted!”

WHEN: Saturday, December 14th at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 15th at 2 p.m.

WHERE: Towsley Auditorium, Morris Lawrence Building, Washtenaw Community College [Huron Drive campus] 4800 East Huron River Drive, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48105.

PRICE:  The price is $5 per ticket. Tickets are available at the door. Cash or check only. [No debit or credit cards.] The box office opens at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14 and at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15.
