WHAT: The workshop is designed to examine how individuals can reduce their personal carbon footprints with an engaging discussion in which participants are encouraged to ponder the relevance of “stuff” they accumulate – think about where happiness really comes from and identify obstacles to personal goals. The discussion will also explore ways people can respect the earth’s natural resources and provide an overview of the many ways Washtenaw Community College is reducing its carbon footprint and how students, faculty, staff and community members are helping in the college’s efforts.

“Studies have shown that in spite of constant increases in household income, the happiness of the average American has declined since World War II” said Dale Petty, WCC Industrial Technology faculty member.  “If we decide to spend more of our time building our communities and working with others to create solutions, we just might find that we can be happy with less stuff.  This workshop will present examples of how to move beyond personal carbon footprint reduction to climate action on the campus and in our communities.”
