New Doctor Now Open in Hartland

Dr. Joy Inyang is currently accepting new patients at her practice, Hartland Pediatrics.

Moving into the Hartland area was like “answering a call to serve,” for Dr. Joy Inyang who recently opened her own practice, Hartland Pediatrics, located at 11525 Highland Rd. For seven years, Inyang was part of a private practice in Highland and said many of her patients were travelling from the Hartland area.  “There was a need out here,” she said. “And I like to practice medicine a little different from other people and be accessible to my patients 24/7.” Parents who call after business hours can expect to reach someone from the practice when emergencies occur such as high fevers or bad accidents- instead of an answering service.  “After hours the phone is connected to my cell phone so you will definitely get somebody,” she said. …

It was an absolute pleasure to get to meet Dr. Inyang and her staff. I likened Dr. Inyang to a 'warm hug' and that is absolutely what she is. You will love her too. Thank you Tatum for this story.   more ›

Local Photographers Share Tips to Help Capture Your Senior's Moments

From bookings to props, local photographers share their tips for senior portraits.

As the Hartland High School class of 2013 prepares for graduation, a new set of students will soon be anticipating their own final year in high school. High school juniors will soon be making their own plans that include finalizing class schedules, applying to colleges and, of course, getting their senior portraits done. Whether students prefer a simple setting or a more model-like environment, Brighton photographer Judy Anderson of Anderson Studios says whatever the student feels comfortable with, it's “extremely important” to capture this moment.  “And it’s not because I’m a photographer, but as a mother,” she said.  Reserving your photographer and photo session early is recommended by local photographer Erin Drallos of Footprints …

Group Home Could Move Into Kendra Lane House

A neighborhood information meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday night at the Brighton offices for the Work Skills Corporation.

A group home for children 16 and under with closed-headed brain injuries could soon be located in a Hartland neighborhood. The Brighton-based Work Skills Corporation has made an offer to buy a home located at 1324 Kendra Lane and, according to a letter sent out to residents, a neighborhood informational meeting will be held at 100 Summit Street in Brighton on Wednesday at 6 p.m.  The possible new addition is in accordance with the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act, according to Hartland Township Planning Director Dave Campbell, and supersedes any local regulations in regards to a foster care facility.  “Effectively what the Zoning Enabling Act says is that the township cannot treat a state licensed adult foster care facility any differently …

I don't think anyone says they oppose it. I think what you've seen here are fair questions and concerns by those who will be most impacted by it. Attacking them doesn't advance anything. And I think with these concerns aired, let's hope they can be addressed if this home is acquired. While I'm not saying this will be the case here and it looks like this nonprofit appears to be high quality, the …   more ›

New Name, Owners for Hartland Tanning Salon

Elba Matlack took over running the local tanning salon with her husband last November.

With new owners and a new name, Hartland Hawaiian Tan is now Tan del Sol located at 10072 Highland Rd. in the Fountain Square Shopping Center. Taking over the business last November, Tan del Sol is the first family business for Hartland resident Elba Matlack and her husband. “It’s something we’ve always wanted to do,” she said.  Adding to the fact that the tanning salon was also a local business made it even more appealing, according to the new business owner. As warmer weather and Prom season approaches, Matlack says the tanning salon has been “crazy” with people coming in to get their base tans. She also recommends that customers use lotions consistently to help maintain they’re new “glow.” “That’s a big thing to get that base tan and …

Third Location of Mikey's Burgers and Fries Coming to Hartland

The local chain restaurant has plans to have their third location open in Hartland by summer.

The locally owned and operated two-restaurant chain of Mikey’s Burgers and Fries, with locations in Howell and Brighton, will soon be opening a third location in Hartland. Construction for the third location has already begun in the Waldenwoods Shopping Center and the owner’s say although the location will be smaller than the Brighton restaurant, they will be able to add seating for 35 customers. Moving into the former Vietnamese Café location, co-owner Mike Donn says they hope to be open by summer.  Longtime friends and Howell natives, Big Mike and Little Mike – as they are known around town- opened the original Howell location three years ago and expanded into Brighton more than a year ago.  Growing up in the area, Donn said that …
