Hartland Man to Open 'Dream' Sandwich Shop

Patrick Thompson of Hartland has plans to open new Highland deli restaurant by mid- April.

With a menu selection that offers an eclectic choice of sandwich options, Down the Street Deli has plans to open mid-April in the former Zaydee's Coffee House location at 2330 S Milford Rd. in Highland. Combining items such as raspberries and ham or turkey and strawberries, owner Patrick Thompson of Hartland says he doesn’t know how to cook, but he can make a sandwich. “I've never tried to cook," he said. "But people have had some of my sandwiches before and they always told me I would have open a store." New Business Offers Healthy and Helpful Service

Veggie Pails will deliver fresh fruit and vegetables to their customers doorstop.

Healthy cooking is sometimes difficult for some people and finding the fresh ingredients to make those meals is sometimes even harder, especially during Michigan winters. Two Highland women are hoping to help change that problem with a new business that delivers pails full of fresh fruit and vegetables to your doorstep. Started last October by Nicole Converse and Melissa Tabalno, Veggie Pails was created to bring “convenience and variety” to people’s homes on a weekly basis by offering three different sized pails filled with fresh ingredients, according to Tabalno.  Originally the idea began with ingredients from local farmer’s markets, but during the winter months, the two women have been bringing in produce from out of state, which has …

Brighton Tattoo Parlor Says Moms and Tattoos Are a Common Trend

Flowers, children's names and skulls are tattoo picks for local moms.

While being a mother typically involves hectic schedules of work, sports, play dates and homework, a group of local moms chose to spend their morning, laughing and gritting their teeth as they fought off the typical mom-stereotype. Seated in a small room at American Graffiti Tattoos in Brighton, three moms spent their morning ooh-ing and ahh-ing over their friends latest tattoos, while talking about their kids, husbands and what they were going to make for dinner.  Each of the women had at least two children and were in their late 30’s, early 40’s and, according to American Graffiti tattoo artist John Nixon, moms getting tattoos is a common trend. The local Irish pub in Hartland is busy preparing for the annual event where everyone gets to be Irish for a day. O'Malley's Irish Pub and Restaurant will open at 8 a.m. on March 17, St. Patrick's Day, and will be serving their well-known Irish fare of corned beef hash and green eggs and ham. The pub will also be serving plenty of green beer and of course, Guinness, an Irish staple beer. To pour a perfect glass of Guinness, however, takes patience and the correct tapper. O'Malley's only uses their imported tapper when building a Guinness, according to O'Malley's bartender Heather Smith. Hartland Jimmy John's Coming Soon

The new restaurant franchise is expected to open within the next one to three days.

The wait is almost over for Hartland’s newest sandwich shop as Jimmy John’s Gorment Sandwiches is expected to open in the next one to three days. Located in the Fountain Walk Shopping Center, the newest location will be the third Jimmy John’s franchise store for brothers Brad and Todd DeLang who also have restaurants in Lapeer and Oxford. The brothers have been running their other two locations for more than three years and according to general manager Todd DeLang, 23, opening in Hartland has been a goal they have been working toward for several years. “We’ve just been looking for a location,” he said.  Situated next to Finders Keepers and F.A.O.
